Power Food: Tomato

Hello readers!

This week we talk about the power food tomato. We both absolutely love this delicious fruit but only if the slimy mushy insides are removed, haha! Some people argue that the tomato is part of the vegetable family, but believe it or not it’s actually a part of the citrus fruit family.

Have you ever struggled choosing the perfect tomato? Here are some tips... you’ll want to look for a tomato that is completely free of blemishes or bruises. If you notice a dark spot steer clear my friends because that is a sure sign that it will have a rot-spot on the inside. The colour should be a deep and bright red shade. Now it’s time to pick it up and feel the texture, the skin should not wrinkle when you push on it and your finger should not sink into it at all, avoid ones with soft spots. Commonly tomatoes are picked and transported when they are green and will ripen on their way to the grocery store. Sometimes if the tomato isn’t turning red fast enough they will speed the ripening process by spraying them with ethylene gas. I recommend you look for the tomato that says “vine ripened” or something to that effect. It’s summer so to avoid all that fuss, you can always buy from local farmers markets! We LOVE going to the farmers market. So much fun :).

There are many health benefits to eating tomatoes, did you know that it can help prevent certain cancers that attack the lung, stomach and prostate? It helps to lower cholesterol and just ½ a cup is 20% of your daily recommended Vitamin C intake. Pretty amazing! Also drinking 100% pure tomato juice can actually help with nasty uncomfortable inflammation. They are packed with antioxidants, dietary fiber and vitamins.

If you’re not incorporating tomatoes into your current diet, you should start! Tomatoes can be enjoyed in many different ways.

Here are some ways we enjoy eating tomatoes:
Bruschetta
Topping on a taco
Incorporated in a salad
In Guacamole
On pizza
In sandwiches or on hamburgers
In sauces

So, whether you call it tomato or tom├Ąto this power food is definitely one we recommend you eat often!

Week in Review

Jenn: This week was a not bad week for me, I'm down half a pound. The weather here has been absolutely beautiful, pretty humid and sticky though but still really nice. That made it really easy for Noah and I to get out on walks.
I decided on trying something different, instead of doing weight watchers I'm going to try my fitness pal. It's been two days for me on this different tracking process, and so far so good!
I've also been inspired by Steph, to do a workout challenge! I'm doing a 30 day challenge, but I'm doing five workouts a week. These five workouts I'm required to work up a sweat, and really push myself. It feels really good to be working out again, it can be really hard to get into it but once it's done I feel fantastic!
Steph: Hey all! My very busy week has finally come to an end and I can finally relax. I’m happy to say that I’m down 1 lb since last week and find that very motivational. It makes me want to stay on track and continue on with my journey!
The jewelry show went really well and I made quite a few sales :). It was good to show me what to expect as a vendor and how prepared to be. I really enjoyed myself! I’ve also decided to open an etsy store which will be really fun! I can’t wait :D!
My 30 day challenge is going really well! I’ve done consistently well and am now almost 2 weeks in! I feel so great! The weather here has been pretty crappy and humid lately which I hate so most of my workouts have been indoors. I’ve also been feeling fairly off since Monday and am only starting to feel better now. I did Zumba on Monday but last night I settled for a 20 minute walk. I think tonight I will either do Zumba or my Taebo video :). I can’t wait!
Anyways I will check in soon! Take care :)

Transformation Tuesday

Lately I've been doing really badly with Weight Watchers. I can't seem to get on track or stick to my points and it's been killing me :(. Thankfully I've been consistently working out which means I haven't put on weight. I really need to get my butt in gear as It doesn't make sense for me to be trying to motivate others when I can't even motivate myself.

This morning I decided to participate in #transformationtuesday on Instagram and posted some pics to make me feel GOOD. And that's what they did.. I feel so much better! Here they are:

Not only is it showing me how far I've come but it's shown me that I haven't quit and now isn't a good place to start.

Review: Lancome - Teint Idole Ultra 24H

I love trying new foundations, because who doesn’t want that flawless look? Since I have always struggled with my complexion I really need a good coverage foundation. During my search I have found Lancome teint idole ultra 24h, I would consider this to be a medium/heavy coverage. It feels super light on the skin which surprised me, and doesn’t melt off.. at all. I have worn this foundation and worked out and it was still in it’s place, it’s formula is very breathable. When I have breakouts (almost daily) I need to use a very good concealer in combination with this product. This foundation does not act as a concealer like other foundations I have used in the past. On the areas where I have old discoloration or dark spots it works amazing and really blends super nicely to look like natural skin and almost like you’re not wearing any foundation. This product does not last 24 hours like they claim it’s supposed too, I have tried three different types of primer even. It does however last 12 hours on my skin, which impresses me. Everyone has different skin so it may last longer or less hours than it might on another person. I do absolutely love the shade selection!

I found the best way to apply this foundation was with a stippling foundation brush. I tried applying with my fingers or with a non-latex makeup sponge and it does not work well. I even tried other foundation brushes and they all work but not nearly as nicely as this one does. I start with one pump on the back of my hand and dab the stippling brush lightly into the foundation, and then slowly buff in circular and dabbing motions on my face until I get the desired coverage. I do end up using 3 pumps (on a bad day), I would start off with a pump at a time so you’re not left with any waste. When applying any foundation always remember to blend into the neck, so you're not left with any harsh makeup lines.

Here is a picture I found that looks almost identical to the stippling brush I use.

Lancome - teint idole ultra 24h retails for approximately $50.00, I purchased mine from Shoppers Drug Mart. Not all Shopper Drug Mart locations carry Lancome products though.

What Lancome claims this product to do:
“This velvety smooth foundation blends effortlessly for shine-free, round-the-clock comfort. Retouching throughout the day is unnecessary with this expert formula, which took Lancome eight years of research to perfect and unveil. Available in an impressively wide range of shades, Teint Idole Ultra 24H provides all skin tones flawless, even, complexion-perfecting coverage.”

To give you a little background on why I tried Lancome - teint idole ultra 24h, after I fell in love with Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo foundation I was informed that the product was on backorder. So after waiting on a list for three months and living off samples Sephora kindly gave me, I decided to venture off and find something else that might work. On my search I couldn’t find the right shade for my skin tone, I always...ALWAYS have this problem. Lancome is the first foundation out of many that provided a shade very close to my skin tone, just like the Kat Von D one did. So if you’re struggling with finding a shade that works, I highly recommend Lancome brand foundations.

Once I am done this bottle of Lancome - teint idole ultra 24h I will be repurchasing.

I hope this review was helpful to you, if you have any questions please feel free to comment below!

Week in Review

Steph: Hey all, so this week has been good. I’ve done an amazing job increasing the amount of activity I have gotten in and feel great! I have a lot of improvement in the eating department but.. I’m getting there. :) I gained .7 lbs this week but am glad to be down what I was up earlier in the week (which was a lot more). I also need to factor in that I’ve had great workouts for the last 6 days in a row and have been pushing myself a lot. Also mother nature is a factor but I won’t go into that!!

I’ve been going to the market more recently and have really been enjoying it. I’ve been filling up the fridge and fruit basket with healthy foods and am feeling good about myself. Now I just have to go to the market and avoid buying a huge pack of maple sugar candy!

This weekend is the art show at FrogPond winery where I will be selling my jewelry. I am really excited and am now 100% prepared. I am still making more stuff but you can never have TOO much stuff, right? I am really, really, really hoping that the rain holds off.. but we shall see!

The day where I am going to be crazy busy is coming up (Saturday) and it is the one day I have allowed myself to NOT workout because of the circumstances. I am still going to try for something. But I’m not going to make myself feel like shit after 10 straight days of working out. Plus I knew going into this challenge this would happen.. so I was prepared.

Anyways, wish me luck! I likely will not be posting until after the show but I will make sure to let you know how it goes!

Jenn: I’m still struggling this week, but having Stephie as a bestie is such a huge motivator. I have been pre-tracking which helps a lot, I also went for a couple long walks with Noah. I would really like to increase the amount of exercise in my life, because I feel like I’m falling into old habits. I have been considering doing a 30 day challenge again, because I really felt amazing after.

Other than my struggles, I had an amazing week. Fathers Day was super nice, Noah and I created a handmade gift for Brandin and he loved it. I was so happy to have my parents over for dinner, because it’s so important to me to make Brandin and my Dad feel special on their day. I also had the pleasure of enjoying my Nan-inlaw’s 75th Birthday, that was super fun and really nice to see family.

Beading Hearts by Steph

Hi all,

Jewelry has always been an interest for me. I’ve always loved sparkle and bright colours! Last year I started saving a TON of tutorials on Pinterest and had finally decided to try some out. That is where my joy of beading comes in. I started by making a lot of bracelets but have since moved over to both earrings and necklaces. It has almost become an addiction! It got to the point where I had wayyy too many items and I needed to either stop buying so many beads or start doing something with the items I was making!

At that point I decided to see if there was interest in people buying my items and the answer was YES!! :) I started my Facebook page Beading Hearts by Steph and instantly got traction. I’ve been making a lot of items to post but a lot of people have asked for special orders which is where a lot of my business comes from. I really love doing it!! I’ve also gotten more into making my own creations and styles instead of doing tutorials. I think my items are a bit more unique that way :)

Here are a few of the items I’ve made (some are special orders):

I try to make a wide variety of stuff and most things are one of a kind :)

On June 22-23 between the hours of 11am-6pm I will be in St. Catherines at the Frogpond Farm winery selling my items at their annual art show “Art in the Vineyard”. Admission is free and you will be able to enjoy great wine, music and some beautiful pieces of work! Plus you’ll be able to see me!

Come check it out!

Power Food: Lime!

Hey all,

We decided to switch up the way we’re doing our bi-weekly power food post. Instead of making it a 2 part post where we both say our piece we decided to make it a group effort and instead focus on the power food itself. This means you’ll be hearing more about the benefits of the food itself instead of hearing a recipe we like. Please share your feedback :)

We decided to do this post on lime! Limes are a great source of Vitamin C (1 lime is 30% of recommended daily value) and can really jazz up your beverage :). Sliced lime in a tall glass of cold ice water is super refreshing! You can also add other fruits along with lime to spritz things up! For example, lemon, oranges, raspberries, mint leaves.. be creative!

When you are picking a lime look for the skin to be shiny as this is a sign that it is fresh. Avoid limes that are brown in colour as that is a sign of mold.  Also,  avoid buying limes that are hard. Limes stay fresh in the fridge for up to 2 weeks and at room temperature for 1 week. It is recommended to keep limes at room temperature to maximize juice content! (never knew that!)

Persian limes are the ones commonly found in grocery stores with key limes being harder to find. The difference between these two are size and taste. Key limes are much smaller than a Persian lime (size of golf balls) and are more tart.

Health benefits of limes include weight loss, skin care, good digestion, relief from constipation, eye care, and treatment of scurvy, respiratory disorders, gout, gums and urinary disorders

We learned a lot while researching limes. Here is something that surprised us!

Did you know?
When applied externally on skin, its acids scrub out the dead cells, cures dandruff, rashes, bruises etc.

Is used as a disinfectant and deodorizer... can also reduce body odor.

Can give you extreme relief during constipation. Interesting.

When lime juice is added to fruit salad, it adds delicious flavor and can prevent the apple pieces from turning brown.

You can add lime to rice and corn on the cob to save calories.

Can freshen up the air in your home if you slice them and boil them.

You can use lime in so many unique ways!

Here are some that we enjoy:
  • Adding to water/any beverage
  • Adding to salad dressings
  • Using on fruit salads, guacamole and others to prevent browning and to improve taste

Hope you enjoyed the read :)!

Smile Power!

In honour of National Smile Power day which is today I thought I would talk about smiling!

When I am out and about you’ll usually see me with a ridiculous full-on smile. I’ll be walking down the street or through the grocery store just grinning away. Smiling has become a habit of mine.. a really great one! I tend to smile at pretty much everyone I encounter and it doesn’t matter whether you’re young, old, small, big, mean looking, or also smiling... you’ll get a smile from me. And you know what? I really hope it brightens your day. I’ve heard multiple times “you’re the nicest person I know” or “your positivity is rubbing off on me... I needed that”. This is what I want!! I want to pass on my happiness.. I want to pay it forward! I want the people I smile at to smile at others and brighten others days.

You know what a few of the best things about smiling are? A smile is naturally beautiful and they’re free to give away! They NEVER go out of style and can be one of the best accessories anybody can have!

ONE smile given to ONE person can affect their next actions and can actually alter their day and sometimes even their life. Imagine if you directly impacted someone’s bad/horrible day by just flashing them one genuine smile? That’s a feel good moment right there. A smile can start to mend walls, can welcome conversation and can even bring new, positive individuals into your life. A smile can also demonstrate open body language and can show your sincerity.

Choosing to smile instead of frown not only does something for others.. it does something positive for yourself as well. By choosing to smile you are directly affecting the way you feel, the choices you make, and it will improve your outlook. It also boosts your immune system, lowers your blood pressure, releases endorphins, natural pain killers and serotonin. A smile can also reduce your personal stress after a stressful situation. This is called the facial feedback hypothesis. Forcing a smile is enough to lift our mood.. even if it is just slightly.

So in conclusion, what are some of the after affects?
You will be inspired to continue treating others with kindness and compassion, will brighten others days, will radiate positivity and you can majorly change someones day. It also greatly affects your own day in particular the way you feel, choices you make and your stress levels.

Plus they’re free and contagious! So give them out!

hehe :)

Thanks for reading and Happy Smile Power Day :)

Quick Challenge Update

So last night I completed my first day of the 30 day challenge and I have to admit I walked into it feeling... not so excited. I really didn't want to work out. I even thought "I've already had a 15 minute walk.. I could be done".

I was feeling lazy.

I started to think "I'll do my workout at 7:30" which turned into "I'll do my workout at 8" which turned into "maybe I'll do it at 9".

I was feeling lazy.

Eventually I thought "why not NOW!? What's the difference between doing it now and 30 minutes from now?"

And I did! I did it even though I was feeling lazy.. even though I could have been done.. even though I didn't really want to do it. It made me push myself harder and instead of doing a 10 minute workout I ended up staying on that stability ball for 25 minutes. It felt good.. I feel good. I put in a 40 minute workout when I could have just done 15. I am proud of myself.

I feel motivated :). Can't wait to go power walking tonight!

Thanks for the read!

30 Day Workout Challenge

Hi all,

Once again I am going to do a 30 day workout challenge! Here are the details:

What does this mean?
For 30 days straight I am going to go out of my way to be active for at LEAST 10 minutes every single day (last time I did this I think I might have had only one 10 minute workout of the whole 30 days and that was after driving for 8 hours in that day). It is very likely I will exceed that time but 10 is the bare minimum.

Why am I doing this?
Because I've gotten in a rut that I need to get out of. A very smart coworker of mine (hi Nik!) once told me that it takes you doing something for 30 days straight to develop a habit. He inspired me to start once and I did.. and it brought on my love of working out.

Since I've moved into the apartment it has become a lot tougher to push myself to do so as there is not a gym in my building or basement ...like before... where I could just go downstairs to workout.

When am I going to start?
Today! Today is my day one :)

How do I plan on succeeding?
By pushing myself! I have many options of working out but I just need to motivate myself to actually DO it. I can Zumba, do yoga or Taebo, go power walking, use the elliptical or even the stability ball.

I know there are two days this month I will be out of town participating in an art show which will take up a lot of my day. I am going to try my hardest to do something on those two days but I know going into this it might not be possible. I will not beat myself up if I miss a day then.

Are you interested in doing your own challenge? Let me know! We can be eachothers motivation :)

Week in Review

Steph: Hey all, I had a great week (even though I didn’t lose). It was busy, busy, busy as it has been consistently lately. Pete’s mom came and stayed with us this weekend which was really fun and work had just been non stop. At 5 I’m ready to just pass out!

I’m also prepping for the FrogPond art show that is coming up soon. Really excited for that!

I am going to stick to my goals this week and plan to print them out and put them up on my desk at work and on the fridge at home. That way they’re in my face and there is absolutely no room for a slip up. :)

Jenn and I went to Zumba on Monday which was awesome but killed me at the same time. Pain has never felt so good!! hehe I’ve also signed on for another round (8 classes) of yoga which excites me!! YAY!!!

Jenn: This week was a very busy week for me. We have been doing a lot of work around the house prepping the yard for sod and hosted a bbq for the guys who helped us lay sod in our yard. Digging up the old yard was HARD work! I also had my Nanny over for supper and cake which was really nice. Even though I was busy this week and didn’t have a lot of time for me, I am so happy that I was able to spend lots of quality time with family and friends.

I’m feeling really drained these past few days and can’t seem to get enough rest, maybe it’s weather related drowsiness?

I want to do the same as Steph and post my goals in visible places around my house so I am forced to be reminded.

Zumba with Steph was crazy on Monday and I gave it my all, it hurt but felt really awesome getting a good workout. I have also been doing squats at home, so my legs are really hurting from the combination of the two.

Best Friend Day!

Jenn: A best friend is a very special role is ones life, they are the first person you think of when you want to go on new adventures. The first person you call to tell exciting news, and the one person you can talk to about anything. My day feels incomplete if I don't talk to my best friend.

I am so proud to have Stephie as my best friend, we've been close friends for almost 11 years. We are so different but so much alike, it's a perfect mix. We've developed our own language and have many crazy weird stories that we like to keep as inside jokes, just because of how weird they are. I love our wacky ways and how perfect our friendship is.

Our friendship is so effortless, there is never any awkward silences. We don't even have to be doing anything, just keeping eachother company is sometimes all we need.

Stephie is my biggest supporter, complimenter, encourager, and she's always there for me.

Steph: AWWWW!!!! MERRRRRR ^^^^!!! I’m so lucky to have a person like this in my life. Someone who is so open and honest.. and fun! We have the absolute BEST time together whether we’re doing something fun or just chilling out. We have perfect chemistry hehe :)! I don’t know anyone else I could ask to pull up my pants after peeing because my nails aren’t completely dry yet.. lmao! :P She’s an amazing individual.

I honestly don't know if I'd even be alive if Jenn wasn't around. Jenn has been the one constant person in my life who has supported me and given me 100% honest advice no matter what. She’s been there through every difficult experience and has held me up when I knew that without her I’d crumble. She’s also been there with me through all the good times standing right beside me smiling, laughing and enjoying the fun. She’s the one who know’s 100% of every single detail of my life. Literally EVERYTHING. It’s nice to have a confidant.

Also, did you know we rap? LOL! If you’ve heard us you’re lucky. :P

Back when Jenn and I first met we were very different people. Jenn had more of a rock look to her and was totally a bad ass. I loved it! She’s always been the person to be exactly who she is and has lived her life that way. I couldn’t respect her more for it. I was more of your classic girly teenager … obsessed with boys.. Jenn listened to me whine and whine ALL THE TIME. I don’t know how she did it as there were so many boys. That is one of my favourite things about Jenn. She is the best listener I’ve ever known and frequently tells me to talk to her about anything for as long as I need because she is always there for me. Same subject for a month? Jenn is there to listen. I’m upset about something? Jenn is there to listen. I need to vent? Guess whos there? She does this while I’ve had other friends say “I can’t hear about this anymore” or “you need to move on”. Not Jenn. She’s my rock.. my support.. the greatest thing of my life.

I really think it is because of Jenn that I have the “This is ME and I am who I am” attitude as I really don’t care what people think. Jenn has helped me to realize that it is okay to be crazy and to be myself. She makes me feel more confident in who I am than anyone else ever has. She really does make me feel better about myself 24/7, 365. Need advice on an outfit? Take a pic, send it to Jenn! This goes for everything! “Does this lip colour look bad with my makeup?” Jenn will know!

Jenn, thank you for being the most amazing best friend. You truly are an amazing and beautiful person inside and out. I’ve never seen so much good in one person. You give out so much love to those who are important to you. This friendship is going to go on for the rest of our lives. :) Can’t wait to see what the future brings <3.

Jenn: You summed it up perfectly Stephie, you make it easy to be best friends. I am forever grateful for all you do and continue to do for me and my family. I love how we can’t go one week without seeing eachother and everything we do is always a blast. You and I will be friends forever and I am so proud to have you in my life. You are the most amazing person, and I am so blessed to be able to call you my bestie. Thank you for standing by me through all my tough times and good times, I know I can ALWAYS count on you. You’re so perfect <3

Everyone out there, show your best friend some love today... It’s BEST FRIEND DAY!

Yo-Yo Dieting

In honour of national yo-yo day .. I thought I would submit a post about my least favourite type of yo-yoing. Yo-Yo dieting!

I used to be a chronic yo-yo dieter. I’d try fads, drastic weight loss methods and not surprisingly they would work... buuuuttttt in the end I’d gain all that weight right back AND more. Yo-yo dieting, which is sometimes referred to as weight cycling is when you are drastically gaining and losing weight which can be a loss of anywhere from 5-10 lbs to 50 lbs per weight loss/gain. Basically it is to diet and then not diet on and off which results in the frequent fluctuation of your weight. This can happen by being on a restrictive diet until you reach goal and start eating normally or by giving up on a diet before you reach goal when it becomes too tough or stressful to stick to your “rules”.

Yo-Yo dieting is actually more hazardous to your health than steadily keeping your weight in the “overweight” range. Does that not scare the pants off ya?

A lot of yo-yo dieters end up gaining more weight back after their initial loss as it can be accompanied by shame and stress which can potentially lead to emotional eating. Emotional eating can lead to that individual eating WAYY more (binge eating) than they usually would (been there, done that). It also can bring health issues later in life. Studies have shown that yo-yo dieters who have just entered menopause have an increased risk of heart disease. Dr Oz. says that the link between yo-yo dieting and heart disease “involves the cells that line the blood vessels called endothelial cells”. When individuals consistently gain and lose weight the blood in these cells is not able to flow freely because the cells have been damaged by the extreme drop and increase of weight. This restricts the flow of blood to the heart (um.. that’s scary) and can increase your risk of having a heart attack or stroke. It can also increase the risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and gallbladder disease.

Not only is yo-yo dieting harmful to your physical health it is also hazardous to your mental health. Studies show there is an increased risk of mental distress, sadness and being unsatisfied with your life/depressed when your weight is constantly fluctuating. A lot of Yo-Yoers also have the mentality that if they deviate even just a tiny, tiny bit from their “diet” that it’s all lost and that they might as well quit…thus the weight gain…the cycle.. and in the end the continuation of the yo-yoing.

Ways to prevent yourself from Yo-Yo dieting
- Don’t give up! If you have a “no quit” attitude... you won’t!
- Go slowly and have patience. Slower is better and it allows the weight to stay off much longer. If you’re upset about not dropping 5 lbs in a week there is something wrong. Aim for 1 lb per week instead. To be successful weight loss must be gradual.
-  Do it for yourself. How many people lose weight for others and then start a yo-yo effect? If you’re doing it for yourself you’re more likely to want it and stick to it.
- Have support. Losing weight is soo much easier when you have a buddy system. I used to talk to my friend Autumn (who I initially met on r/loseit on reddit which is a weight loss forum) ALLLLLL THE TIME about our weight loss and it really motivated me to stay on track. I think I am going to start talking to her more often about this stuff as she is really motivating :). Also if you need advice or guidance and don’t know where to start find a board online. This subreddit on the website Reddit is AMAZING and can give you lots of motivation and inspiration. Seriously check it out!
- Commit to a lifestyle change. This should be considered a “lifelong lifestyle change”. THIS is what will keep your weight off. Make sure this is something you will be able to stick with and nothing TOO drastic (at least at first).
-  Be active. Changing your eating habits will only get you so far. Having an active routine will help you to control cravings, burn calories, gain muscle and will overall make you feel great! If you’re only just starting out.. gradually increase the amount of activity over time. I love the quote “No matter how slow you go, you’re still lapping everyone on the couch”.
- Keep your kitchen stocked with healthier foods. If you have it around you... you’ll be more likely to eat it!

I want you all to remember this one thing. If you have lost weight and are beginning to gain it back.. YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE!! You have had a slip up and it only takes one simple decision to get back up to start feeling better, confident and get yourself back on your journey. Just do it the healthy way!

Hope you were able to learn something! If you’re a yo-yo dieter I hope this has inspired you to rethink things.

Have a great day!

Steph

Week in Review

Steph: This week was good. Stressful, busy.. but good! I’ve been getting a lot more active lately and my meals have been A LOT healthier. My main struggle right now is snacking. I’m not going to drag myself down because of a few bad days.. plus I lost almost a full lb. Much better than a gain! I’ve been pushing myself more in my zumba workouts and it’s made me feel soooo good. Two weeks in a row my instructor looked right at me and went “yeahhhhhhh!!” when I was pushing myself really hard. Really motivates me to try my hardest. I love that.

Last night I read over this post. It almost made me cry. Where is that stephanie? Where did she go? How come I am so unmotivated now when I was SO motivated before? I just don’t get it. So I am going to take my own advice from this post and start to make some tiny changes in my life and will be setting some small, attainable goals.

Here they are:

  • I want to lose minimum 5 lbs this month and to do that I am going to :
    • Track all of my food BEFORE eating it... not afterwards so that I can feel guilty about going over points
    • Work out minimum 3 times per week (minimum 1 time must be Zumba)
    • Pick clean, healthy snacks over crappy foods that contain a lot of sugar and crap
    • Also next week (I am sooo busy this week and weekend) I am going to start to clean out my cupboards, freezer and fridge and get rid of most of the junk. (I do not live alone otherwise I’d toss it all)
    • I am NOT going to eat past 9pm. If I have to I will eat a 0 pt food or enjoy a tiny smoothie. (I always split them with my guy.. so I end up with a smaller serving)

5 simple steps to obtain 1 goal. I KNOW I can do this!

Thanks for the support guys :)

Jenn: This week was a much better week for me, I have been struggling the past few weeks and I feel pretty awesome about this past week. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a lot better. I am down 1.6 lbs, to do this in one week makes me pretty proud of myself.

Last night I got my hair done, and it feels and looks so awesome. I have dark red hair, and I’m totally loving the change.

Noah started walking just holding my one hand yesterday, I am super excited about that! Not much longer and he’ll be walking. He goes for his shots today and I’m really not looking forward to it, but it’s just one of those things we gotta do...

I have had some suggestions to post more about my makeup techniques, so keep posted for that.

Have a wonderful day, thanks for reading!

Power Food: Cherries

Hey it’s Jenn and I picked this weeks power food and I am so excited to blog about cherries! Yuuuuuummmm, I LOVE CHERRIES. It is definitely a favourite of mine. Cherries are really delicious eaten by themselves, but can really be a pain to cook with because of all the preparation involved unless you have a cherry corer. I made zero ww point fruit popsicles the other day, yes I said ZERO points and it was soooooo delicious. Cherries in this recipe are really good, but you can add any of your favourite fruits and it would be good.
What you’ll need: Watermelon, your favourite fruits, popsicle tray and a blender (I used a baby bullet). Here is what I did.... Chopped up watermelon, strawberries, kiwi, mango, and cored and chopped up cherries. Blend the watermelon into a puree. Make layers of the fruit, and then pour the watermelon puree over top and lightly tap the popsicle tray to ensure the watermelon puree covers all the fruit. Insert the sticks and freeze. (TIP: Once frozen put the popsicle tray under hot water, doing this makes it easier to remove from the tray)

Now let’s talk about the benefits of eating cherries... Cherries are extremely high in antioxidants, which fight against cancer and other diseases. This berry is full of Queritrin, hah I don’t know what this is.. but it’s proven that cherries carry this in massive amounts and it attacks and kills cancer cells. Eating cherries can also help people who suffer from migraines, because it has certain compounds that act the same as aspirin or advil. Having cherries on a regular basis can also help with melatonin levels, this is the chemical that our bodies naturally release to help us sleep. There are so many more benefits to eating cherries, I shared the ones that I found really interesting. As we all know when cherries are not in season they are really hard to find and extremely expensive if you do find them. When this fruit is out of season there is a juice you can purchase called red tart cherry juice concentrate, which is extremely good for you. I have never tried this juice but I plan on trying it in the future. If you’ve tried it before please leave a comment and let me know how you liked it.

Steph: Hi all, I have to admit my favourite way to eat cherries is the plain old fashioned way. I LOOOOOVE cherries. I remember always seeing cherries when visiting my great-grandma’s house (that was sooo long ago.. wow) as she had a big cherry tree in her yard. My grandparent’s would always pick them :). I always had them around growing up as they are my mom’s favourite fruit. I love them because they’re so flavourful, sweet and make an amazing snack in the summer when it is ridiculously hot. AND I’d consider them guilt free as they are very low calorie and are packed with anti oxidents :) Plus, when you need to go and can’t.. eat some cherries! You’ll be poopin’ in no time! hehe Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Some sad news about Glossybox

Hi all,

I just wanted to let you know that it is unlikely you will be seeing me posting about Glossybox again. Sadly it looks like they are closing shop .. and they do not seem to have the decency to let their customers know. Not only am I sad and upset but I am disappointed. I really enjoyed receiving these boxes and sharing them with you all.

It's really sad to me that other subscribers are the ones sharing out this news as Glossybox is not willing to reply to any emails, phone calls or Facebook messages. Poor customer service if you ask me.

My next box would have been free :(! Word is going around that Glossybox CA has been bought by Glossybox USA. Not sure what that means.. but some news would be nice GLOSSYBOX!!!

I've joined the waiting list for another beauty box and I will be sharing that with you as soon as I get my first box!

Have a great weekend!

Steph

EDIT: After more than a week of wondering wtf was up they finally sent us an email yesterday. Sadly they have confirmed they will no longer be continuing business. I will miss them!
