30 Day Squat Circuit Challenge

Hi all,

I am LOVING on 30 day challenges lately. It keeps me motivated and really helps me to form habits. I remember when I started doing squats I absolutely hated them. I couldn't really do too many in a row.. but now they are a staple for me!

That is why I've decided to push myself in a new yet familiar way. Here is the 30 day challenge I am currently participating in and am now on day 3!

If you are planning on doing this challenge  PLEASE read the detailed instructions as one rep of the kicks/lifts is when you do both legs. Always good to make sure you're doing the exercise right to avoid injury as well.

Jenn and I were planning on starting this challenge but unfortunately on day 1 she came down with an extremely bad cold/flu. She will be starting in a few days and we will both be updating you around the 1/2 way point!

I can't wait to see the progress!

If you're participating in this challenge please let me know. I'd love to hear everyone else's thoughts on this one as I know a lot of you ALSO did not enjoy the plank challenge lol!

Keep squatting!

Weekly Goals

Hi all,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and if you're local got to enjoy some of the sparkly white stuff we had fall from the sky ;). I know most people that I know don't really enjoy the snow but I love it and think it's so pretty!

Anyways, I really need to get my butt in gear and start focusing on my health. I've really been slacking so decided to make weekly goals for myself again. I have started with small yet attainable goals. I actually started this yesterday (which was successful) and will continue until Saturday and repost new goals at that time.

Here they are!

1. Stay within 1600 calories
2. Do not eat past 9pm
3. Use the exercise bike for at least 10 minutes every single night.

I also have a new 30 day challenge on the go which you will hear about soon :)!

Do you have any goals? Want to join me in setting weekly goals? Let me know and we can work on this together!

Have a great week!

Homemade Hot Chocolate

Skip buying the premade packets, and make it at home! It tastes so much better :)

This recipe is simple and it makes a delicious hot chocolate. It is perfect for this time of year to warm up after coming in from the cold, I think it’s comforting and soothing. Most children and adults love it!

Mix the following ingredients in a bowl:
3 ½ cups sugar
2 ¼ cups cocoa
1 tbsp salt

This mixture makes 92, 8 oz servings! Store in an airtight container to last for the season.

Add 2 tbsps to one cup of hot milk. Topping with mini marshmallows is my favourite, but you could also use whip cream and chocolate shavings. Be creative and garnish with a candy cane, yum!

This also makes a great gift idea, package nicely and get crafty!

Hope you enjoy this as much as I do, and keep warm.

Novemeber's Beauty Questions Answered!

Hi all,

Here are our beauty questions for the month of November. If you have any questions you'd like us to answer in our next post please either comment on this post, email us, or message us directly on Facebook.

Here we go!

Do you wear a full face of makeup everyday?
S: Not usually. I’d say maybe 3-4/7 days I will wear a full face of makeup. There are a lot of days where I don’t wear any makeup at all. I’ve actually been wearing a fresh, clean face out a lot lately and I’m surprised how comfortable I feel without makeup on. I never thought I’d feel this way!

J: I absolutely wear makeup everyday, but sometimes not all day. I won’t leave the house without wearing some form of makeup.

What is your greatest beauty "sin"?
S: I will never ever be able to just let zits, pimples or blackheads alone for more than 24 hours. I will try to treat them with my tea tree oil but after 24 hours of staring at it I can’t take it anymore and will pop them.

J: Picking…… Ugh I’m so bad for it.

Describe your perfect mascara. Have you found one that fits your specifications?
S: I have found two that I truly enjoy which are Covergirl’s Fusion Lashblast and Bare Escentual’s Buxom Lash. The reason I like these two so much is because of how much it volumizes my lashes. I am also a fan of the style of brushes so that is a major bonus! Highly recommended.

J: I buy whatever mascara is on sale, my lashes are pretty easy to work with. I normally have the best luck with maybelline mascaras.

What kind of coverage do you prefer from foundation?
S: I prefer a medium coverage from a pressed powder foundation. If it’s mineral .. I’m even happier!

J: Full coverage is where it’s at for me, I don’t feel comfortable with anything less. I have some acne scarring and still break out often so I have comfort knowing that I have a foundation that will cover those spots when I really need it!

Favorite high end brand?
S: MAC for sure. I love all their products and am rarely disappointed. I can list off all the shades I like in eyeshadow, foundation, blush and lipstick. lol!  If I was being more specific and thinking product it would be Urban Decay for eyeshadows.. 100/10 in quality. Just out of this world!

J: I can’t name just one. My current favourites are; Vichy, Urban Decay & Kat Von D.

Thanks for Reading :)

NSV: Jeans!

Hey all,

Hope you're having a beautiful day so far :)!

I wanted to share with you a non scale victory (NSV) that I had recently that made me feel really good. My birthday falls right around Thanksgiving (I was actually born on Thanksgiving Day) so I always tend to go a bit crazy and eat more than I should.. way more than I should..

Well around that time and slightly before, my jeans were feeling tight.. I hadn't been doing so well on tracking and focusing on my health. It was very discouraging and it made me feel really sad that I could BARELY get my jeans on .. let alone the fact that my baggier jeans were not feeling so baggy anymore.

Now we're in November and I can happily say I'm back into my smaller jeans and I am thinking of finally getting rid of my baggier jeans.

I remember when it was a BIG deal that I could fit into those (once very tight) baggy jeans. Makes me smile thinking of how excited I was once to barely squeeze into them and now I want to get rid of them because they are so big they make me look frumpy. YAY!!!

What a victory!

Have a happy hump day!

Random Act of Kindness Day

Hi all,

Just a reminder that today is Random Act of Kindness Day.

What is a random act of kindness? Wikipedia describes it as a selfless act performed by a person or people wishing to either assist or cheer up an individual person or people.

I'm already thinking of some kind things I am going to do :). Here are some ideas.

Just smiling at someone can be a random act of kindness... so spread it! Pass it on :) I know I'll be smiling all day and will try to do as many nice things as possible.

Hope you all have a wonderful friday! Weekend is here! WOOHOO!

:) Steph

Oh Diet Pop, You're So Bad!

I have to admit I cringe deep down inside every time I see someone order a diet pop. I understand the addiction, I understand people think it’s “healthier”, I understand people think its a better option than regular pop.. but why? Can anyone straight out tell me why? Because there are no calories.. because there is no sugar? Think about what replaces that.

A few years ago I completely gave up pop, juice, most alcohol and anything else you could think of other than coffee and water. I quit it cold turkey and though it was hard, I felt a lot better. Now I allow myself to have smoothies and juice every now and again because its a bit of a treat and it's a lot healthier and less addictive than pop.

Some Interesting Information
  • Drinking diet pop can cause kidney function to decline and eventually cause kidney disease (chronic kidney disease may develop complications like high blood pressure, anemia, weak bones, poor nutritional health, nerve damage and heart disease).
    • This decline has not been shown in those who drank regular pop. This leads us to believe that the artificial sweeteners are responsible
  • In a study of over 10,000 people, studies have shown that consuming one can of diet pop a day can increase the risk of metabolic syndrome by 34%
    • Metabolic syndrome can be a combo of: high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol levels—when these occur together it increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes
  • IT DOESNT HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT!!! Artificial sweeteners can make you gain weight because they trick your body into thinking you’re consuming real sugar which makes you crave sweets more. It  can also mess with the way your body consumes natural sugars
  • The preservatives in diet pop can cause DNA damage. This one is especially scary because it can increase the risk of very, very serious health problems and diseases
These are just some of the side effects of DIET pop.. not pop all together. So if you think you’re saving calories by drinking diet, you’re likely to eat them later when you’re craving all kinds of sweet foods… or when your body just cannot metabolize sugar properly anymore. Our bodies cannot metabolize sucralose and when we continuously trick our bodies into THINKING that it is consuming sugar it will anticipate an energy boost and when it doesn’t come? You’re basically crying wolf and it would be really, really bad if your body stopped responding to actual sugar intake.

People who drink diet pop and those who drink regular pop are just as likely to be obese. So kick the crap and DRINK WATER!

Thanks for reading,

Steph
